MISSISSIPPI COUNTY, Ark. — Authorities in Arkansas are investigating a deadly officer involved shooting in Manila overnight.

The Arkansas State Police confirmed one man died in the incident to WREG but couldn’t release any additional information, saying the Manila Police Department would have to release it.

Chris Palmer

The shooting victim’s family said Manila Police were called to a home on West Olympia on Tuesday night for a disturbance call.

The family identified the victim in the shooting as 38-year-old Chris Palmer. They said Palmer has a history of mental issues, and they wanted a police officer to talk to him and calm him down.

At some point, the family said an officer shot Palmer as he was sitting on the couch.

Manila Police Chief Chris Hill said the officer involved is on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
