MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The ownership company of Wolfchase Galleria mall announced all its properties will temporarily close beginning Wednesday evening.
Simon Property Group, which owns Wolfchase Galleria in Memphis, announced its properties will close beginning at 7 p.m. March 18 until March 29 to protect from the spread of COVID-19 coronavirus.
“The health and safety of our shoppers, retailers and employees is of paramount importance and we are taking this step to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 in our communities,” said David Simon, chairman, chief executive officer and president of Simon.

Many other corporations have been shutting down locations, like L.A. Fitness. This seems to be causing a major strain on workers and on the day-to-day routine for many Memphians.
“I’ve just been feeling lost, honestly, about it,” Memphis resident Charles Elliott said. “I just got back from school, everything being closed down is really different. I just really don’t know what to do right now.”
For now, essentials are still available, as groceries and major retailers remain open.
“We got groceries pretty quickly before everybody started wiping it out,” Elliott said. “As far as everything else? Not really. We just stocked up on groceries.”
Most locals are hoping life can return to normal soon.
“I have hope that everybody in charge, the doctors and everyone, they’ll find a cure for it, and we’ll be back to normal in no time,” Elliott said.
Oak Court Mall, which used to be owned by Simon, was sold last year and operates under different ownership. For now, it remains open.
Four cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in Shelby County.
