(Rochester, MN) Researchers have found using cash as an incentive helps people lose weight.

The Mayo Clinic study offered people a chance to win or lose $20 a month if they met certain diet goals.

They lost an average of 9 pounds compared to just over 2 pounds for those who were not offered money if they lost weight.

Researchers say cash incentives are also important when it comes to giving up bad habits, like smoking.
