(Memphis) Police are looking for a killer, a person who murdered a 56-year-old woman in her Southeast Memphis apartment.
Debra Redd’s body was discovered Tuesday and now police have ruled it a homicide.
Neighbors call her murder ‘a mystery’.
“The sister was on the ground crying,” said a neighbor who didn’t want to be identified. “She was on the ground crying and I asked her if she was alright and she said ‘No! My sister is dead!”
Questions linger in the apartment complex on Katherine Lane since Redd’s body was found.
“I don`t think anyone has seen Pops since then,” said Neighbor Eric Lyles.
Lyles says Debra lived with her brother, known as “Pops,” but since she has been found dead, he has disappeared.
“You are just wondering where did he go?” asked Reporter Sabrina Hall.
“Yeah and what happened? If it was him, what would make him do that? You know?”
Police say Debra’s sister discovered the body Tuesday after not hearing from her for a few days. She found her sister dead and her brother Gregory gone from the home.
“She asked if anyone had seen the brother and I said I could call him,” said a neighbor. who says she called him but a fire fighter picked up the phone inside the apartment, meaning Pops has been gone without his phone.
Police won’t say if he’s a suspect or where he could be.
They also won’t say how Debra was killed.
Neighbors told News Channel 3 that the brother and sister just had a barbecue on Friday, celebrating Easter, and nothing seemed wrong.
They say Gregory, or Pops, was his normal, social self.
“Pops was a generous person, a kind person and a peacemaker around here so it is really surprising to me,” said Lyles.
Until he’s found, his sister Debra’s death may remain a mystery, “ I just hope he is sick somewhere or in the hospital because I just can`t believe he would do that,” said the anonymous neighbor. “He’s just is too friendly to do that.”
