(CNN) Paul Kevin Curtis has been charged with making threats against the president and sending threatening letters, the Justice Department said Thursday.
Curtis, of Corinth, Mississippi, was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of sending threatening letters to President Barack Obama and Sen. Roger Wicker of Mississippi.
Senator Wicker confirms he met Curtis before when Curtis, who is an Elvis tribute artist, performed at a party he and his wife attended in 2000.
