MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Hickory Hill bar and grill is under fire after a shooting left one man injured just after midnight Tuesday.
Cellphone footage revealed what was happening moments before shots rang out at Lavish Bar and Grill, which left people with even more questions.
Just moments before the shots were fired, cell phone footage shows the room was packed with people, many not wearing a mask.
In the video, several rounds of gunfire can be heard in the background.
People tried to run to safety, but unfortunately, Memphis Police said at least one of the rounds hit a man, leaving him in critical condition.
Underground Media producer Paul Bunyun took the video while at a music event at Lavish on Winchester.
In a Facebook post, he said “we were on a good run locally with these music events….the underground music scene didn’t need this now in Memphis amidst the health and safety concerns.”
He went on to say, “seeing first hand once again people still have a need to be ruthless to one another.”
People living nearby said the shooting doesn’t surprise them.
“Every night it’s something,” Daron Archer said. “Every night we got to leave early because we’re not trying to be involved with all that. We just come in there, get a vibe, and then me and my guys, we’re gone.”
Unfortunately, this isn’t the club’s first run-in with violence.
Just last year, a man and a young girl were standing outside the club when they were shot.
Police said the shooting happened around midnight, confusing some people who live nearby, as the current health directive says all restaurants are supposed to close at 10 p.m.
“I thought for sure, but I guess it’s not,” someone else in the area said. “They’re doing what they want to do because I thought the people who run the club would have sense enough to shut it down at a certain time.”
WREG tried to speak with the club owners, but a man said they weren’t available.
We reached out to the city to see if the owner of the business will face any penalties but have not heard back. At this time, no arrests have been made.
