(Nashville, TN) Due to an amendment approved by Tennessee legislators, IDs issued by other states will no longer be valid when it comes to voting.
In a statement, Secretary of State Tre Hargett said, “This change mirrors similar laws in other states, including Indiana. Indiana’s photo ID law has been upheld by the United States Supreme Court.”
He goes on to say, “The amendments also clarify the General Assembly’s original intent in passing the law by explicitly excluding photo IDs issued by counties and municipalities. These changes took effect when the amended law was signed by Governor Bill Haslam this week.”
The Tennessee Supreme Court has ordered Memphis Photo Library Id cards be accepted until the court makes a final ruling on an appeal.
