MILLINGTON, Tenn. – A man has been arrested following a fiery crash in Millington that killed two people Thursday night.

According to Millington Police, first responders were called to the scene of a crash at the intersection of Highway 51 and Wilkinsville around 9 p.m.

Millington Police say one of the two vehicles involved caught on fire. Witnesses tried to get the driver and passenger out of the car but they were trapped and could not be freed. Police say both died at the scene. They have not been identified by authorities.

Police say the driver of the other vehicle, identified by police as 20-year-old Ethan Wells of Munford, is responsible for the wreck. They say he crashed into the victims while driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol. Police also say he stole the vehicle he was in.

Wells was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and then taken to the Millington jail. He’s charged with DUI, reckless driving, failure to exercise due care, motor vehicle theft and two counts of vehicular homicide. He’s also charged with leaving the scene of a crash. He received that charge because police say he tried to run when officers got to the scene.

Jessica Tyus lives around the corner and witnessed the fiery wreck.

“He’s (Wells) got to live with what he did,” Tyus said, “That’s something that will never go away.”

Millington Police say the crash is under investigation. Any one with additional information is asked to call Millington Police at 901-873-5615.
