For much of his 70 years, a man who only wants to use his first name, Joseph says this Binghamton community was home. But when long-time neighbors began moving out, Mr. Joseph says he followed suit.

“My brother used to live up and down through here, But I had to get him out,” Joseph said.

Joseph said hearing someone was shot and killed in his old neighborhood saddens him.

It is a shared sentiment from others who did not want to go on camera, as they wonder if the victim may have been trying to get help from someone at the home not realizing the house is under renovation and vacant.

Nevertheless, Joseph and others are asking people in the community to stop the violence.
