(Germantown, TN) A road construction project in Germantown is expected to cause a few headaches for drivers.
Some people remember the traffic nightmare drivers went through last year when Poplar at West Street was widened.
Crews spent the day Tuesday surveying Germantown Road where two lanes will be widened to four lanes.
“I’m sure it’ll be a problem, but you’ll just have to find another way to go,” said Jeanne Debo, who lives nearby.
Construction begins Wednesday.
The Tennessee Department of Transportation says the three-quarter mile strip of Germantown Road between Stout Road and Crestridge will see temporary road closures and delays.
“If you get jammed up down here and want to go another way, you can always take Hacks Cross,” said Roy Stanfill.
He and others around Germantown have learned to be flexible, ever since dealing with the widening of Poplar Ave. at West Street last year. Drivers experienced long traffic delays. Others avoided the area altogether which hurt some businesses.
“There were a lot of frustrated people and there still are because I don’t think the traffic coming through there has been lightened considerably,” said Stanfill.
This project will be less intrusive, according to a TDOT spokesperson.
She claims the area is not as heavily populated with businesses or traffic.
The $3.9 Million project is expected to be done by July 2014.
“I think it may hurt some of the people coming in from Mississippi that use that roadway, but I think it will eventually be fine,” said Debo.
