(Memphis) A man is in critical condition at The MED after being shot by a Memphis Police Officer.

MPD Spokesperson, Sgt. Alyssa Macon-Moore tells WREG officers answered an alarm call in the 2900 block of Wedge Cove around 3:30 a.m. Saturday morning.

They found a suspect armed with a shotgun in the rear of the residence. Officers gave verbal commands to the suspect, at which time he turned and pointed the shotgun at them.

One officer fired shots, hitting the suspect. He fled on foot and was later located at Baptist DeSoto Hospital in Southaven, MS. He was later airlifted to the Regional Medical Center in critical condition.

No charges have been filed at this time.

The officer who fired his weapon has been routinely relieved of duty with pay pending the outcome of the investigation.

His identity has not been released.
