UPDATE: The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office says this investigation is now considered a homicide investigation. The victim has been identified as Samuel Hare, 54.
SHELBY COUNTY, Tenn. — Shelby County detectives are investigating a death Wednesday morning in Arlington.
The sheriff’s office says a person was found with a gunshot wound at 5:45 a.m. in the 12400 block of Noble Oak Drive. The person was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities said there is no suspect information, and they did not identify the victim.
The sheriff’s office did not say whether the death was considered a homicide, but said they are actively investigating.
Neighbors say they woke up to lights and squad cars surrounding part of their neighborhood.
“It was very quiet, but it was lot of lights,” Helen Bond, neighbor, said. “It very upsetting, disturbing to hear that.”
SCSO have not identified the person, but neighbors say the man who lived there moved in back in August and may have been a traveling salesman.
His next door neighbor says even though they practically live a stone’s throw from each other, the man kept to himself and was rarely seen.
“We would never even see him coming and going. My wife saw him pull in the driveway once and shut the garage. That was it,” Daniel Virden, a neighbor, said. “It definitely makes us uneasy.”
About a month ago neighbors say, some burglars were cornered inside a neighbor’s garage, after officers did a helicopter search. Still this death surprises those who live here.
“Hopefully we moved out here, not to avoid, you can’t get away from it. Hopefully you know it wouldn’t be just at our front door. But it seems like it is,” Reginald Jamerson a neighbor, said.
They asked anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 901-528-CASH
