OAKLAND, Tenn. — One man was killed after state authorities say he attacked an officer with knives at a gas station in Fayette County. He has been identified as Michael Brandon Joyner.
According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, Oakland officers were called to the Murphy gas station in the 6700 block of Highway 64 around 6 p.m. Thursday. The caller claimed that a man in a truck had threatened him with a knife.
When officers approached, the accused got out of his vehicle and “struck the officer with two knives,” the TBI said. As the attack continued, the officer pulled out his gun and fired, killing the unidentified man.
Attacks overall have some feeling hopeless.
“It happens much too often and it seems like,” saidRoy Davis. “It’s getting worse and worse.”
Davis said just a few months ago, he walked outside his home to find a man fatally attacked – leaving this grandfather to now reflect on less turbulent times.
“Back in the day when I was coming up as a kid and others were coming up as a kid, you didn’t see this kind of going on,” he told WREG’s Jerrita Patterson.
The officer involved received treatment on the scene.
