SHELBY COUNTY, Tenn. — Two Shelby County municipal school districts came together on Friday to vaccinate teachers.
Germantown Municipal School District said it partnered with Collierville Schools to set aside this day to allow staff members to get the shot at Germantown Baptist Church.
“How long was the wait time? Oh, literally I came in at 10:13 a.m. and I was sitting over here at 10:25 a.m.,” said Deanna Goss, one of the nearly 650 staff members who spent their morning getting their first dose of the Pfizer vaccine.
“Is was the convenience of our district being able to work with the health department getting these shots for us,” she said. “So, it was a great, convenient location. They worked with us as far as our schedule at school.”
Friday was still a regular school day and many of the staff members headed back to class once vaccinated. Anticipating this, both districts adjusted their daily schedules. All Collierville schools were moved to remote learning while Germantown schools still conductied in-person learning but on a modified schedule.
“So, it’s really just another layer of reassurance and increasing the comfortability level in our classroom,” said Collierville Public Information Officer Mario Hogue. “This is a great opportunity and one giant step forward to returning to normalcy not only in our schools but in our professional and personal lives.
Collerville officials said the second dose will be administered at the same church on March 27.
