(Memphis) A park that’s been the center of controversy will also be the center of a celebration for its former namesake.

The 109th annual General N. B. Forrest Birthday Celebration will be held tomorrow at 2:00 in what used to be called Forrest Park on Union Avenue.

According to a release, “The yearly event is sponsored by the General N. B. Forrest Camp, Sons of Confederate Veterans to commemorate the birth of one of Memphis ’, and the Civil War’s, great military leaders and America ’s greatest cavalryman.  This year marks the 109th annual Forrest Birthday Celebration and General Forrest’s 192nd birthday.”

The park, along with two others, was recently renamed Health Sciences Park after complaints it celebrated racism and separatism.
