MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Memphis woman was arrested after being accused of firing shots at a vehicle with two children inside.

According to police, a man and the two children drove to the 4000 block of Speck Drive in Nutbush to retrieve a basketball that had been left behind. When they arrived, they were confronted by Alisha Padilla, who allegedly became so irate she pulled a gun and started firing.

The bullets struck the man’s vehicle while the children, ages 14 and six, were still inside, police said. They were not hurt.

The driver called police after Padilla left the house and drove to a friend’s house on North Graham Street, where she parked her car inside a fenced yard and fled into the house.

Padilla was arrested at the other home and charged with three counts of aggravated assault.

“I think it’s a crying shame that she’s gettin’ by with just three counts of assault,” said a neighbor who didn’t want to be identified. “That should have been attempted murder, with them two kids in the car with him.”

One woman, who also doesn’t want to be identified, says she’s known Padilla for seven years and just can’t believe she committed such a violent crime.

“I do know that she came to my residence shortly after. She was looking for me, but I was at a birthday gathering with my family,” the woman said. “I don’t see Alisha doing anything like this, especially with a child involved. They’re saying two kids were involved and I just don’t see her doing it, but then I can’t say because I wasn’t there.”

We were unable to reach the driver of the vehicle Padilla allegedly shot at.

Padilla is in jail on a $30,000 bond.
