MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting early Sunday morning.
According to Memphis Police, officers responded to a prowler call around 7:15 a.m. in the 6300 block of Quail Hollow at the Extended Stay America hotel in East Memphis. Officers were told a person who was in a gray vehicle was breaking into cars in the parking lot.
While officers were on the scene doing their investigation, the suspect drove toward the officers. One of the officers fired shots at the suspect, and the suspect fled the scene.
“The officer had to jump out of the way, and at that time the officer fired one shot at that truck,” Deputy Chief Don Crowe, Memphis Police said.
Memphis Police said it is unknown if the suspect was struck by gunfire, and they are checking local hospitals to find out if anyone was admitted with a gunshot wound.
People who were staying at the hotel said they didn’t know what was going on at the time.
“I didn’t know what was going on,” said Otha Gallion, a hotel guest.
Gallion said he didn’t think this would happen, after bringing his wife here to celebrate Mother’s Day. The Mississippi man said unfortunately this is not the first time disorder in Memphis, has dampened his plans
“Every time I come to Memphis, you can’t even bring your car to the hotel without people breaking in,” Gallion said.
No arrests have been made, and no officers were injured.
This is an ongoing investigation.
