MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police said they have a man in custody after a hostage situation late Saturday night.
On Sunday, Memphis Police released more detailed information about the ordeal. MPD said officers responded to a domestic call at the apartment complex. Officers were told that woman had called a relative and asked to be picked up.
When the relative arrived to the location, he heard a lot of commotion and called police. When officers arrived to the scene, they spoke with the victim, and she said she was coming out of the apartment.
After hours of no contact, the victim and four children came out of the apartment. The victim said the man attacked her and hit her several times with an open hand.
Additionally, she told police that she was exiting the apartment, but the suspect prevented her from doing so.
Police arrested Corey Watson, and he is now facing simple assault and kidnapping charges.
Originally, Memphis Police said a man was possibly armed with a gun. But in the affidavit, there wasn’t any mention of anyone being held at gunpoint.
