SHELBY COUNTY, Tenn. — One person was killed after being shot in north Shelby County, according to the Shelby County Sheriff’s office.
Deputies said it happened shortly after 2 p.m. Sunday near the intersection of Old Brownsville Road and Rensslaer Drive.
When deputies arrived, they located Demarcus Bruin,25, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to Regional Medical Center where he died from his injuries.
Deputies have not released what led to the shooting. While on scene, several residents watched as Shelby County deputies carried out their investigation. Some told us they believe this may have been some form of road rage. One man we spoke to said he ran for his life to avoid being hit.
“You know you could tell it was two different gun shots. So, you can hear one gunshot coming this way and one gun coming that way,” one area resident said.
Another man said he heard multiple gunshots and immediately ran under his car for cover.
“I just got on out the way,” the man said.
One man we spoke to said he believes at least two cars were involved in the shooting. He said he saw the victim speed away from the scene in a car riddled with bullet holes.
Other neighbors who did not want to go on camera said they saw another car speed away in the opposite direction. On scene, our cameras witnessed a woman getting out of a deputy’s vehicle in handcuffs.
Authorities have not said whether she will face any charges or who she is in relation to the scene.
It’s still unclear what led to this shooting.
“It’s a dangerous spot right here. There’s no yield sign or none of that. So, everybody be jumping that hill and you don’t know what happened. It be kids walking out. It could’ve been somebody kids out there walking in the street and you almost hit them. You never know,” the resident said.
