MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis police responded to a shooting at a gas station at Lamar Avenue and Bellevue on Tuesday around 2 pm to find that a man had been shot.

After being shot, the male victim ran over the woman who shot him, police said.

According to police, both have been taken to Regional One Hospital in critical condition.

It’s unclear if investigators know why the woman opened fire or why the man ran her over, if he was defending himself or responding in anger.

Sandra Pender lives nearby. She says she’s glad no innocent bystanders were hurt.

“I’m definitely glad because bullets don’t have no eyes. They go anywhere,” she said, “They hit anything, kids, family, car. There could have been an innocent person driving down the road gotten hurt. It’s not good to open fire in an open area like this. There are other people. People going to work, getting out of school. There’s a lot of stuff going on.”

Police say a second crime scene down the street was connected. WREG saw a red car being towed away but investigators haven’t said if that was the car the man was driving.
