Jerrita Patterson joined the WREG News Channel 3 team in June 2019 and is over-the-top excited to report in her home state.
Jerrita is originally from Bowling Green, Kentucky, but grew-up in Nashville, Tennessee. Her television career started in her hometown of Nashville, where she was an Associate Producer, Web Editor and Weekend Producer at WKRN-TV. Two years later she made the move across the country to Butte/Bozeman, Montana, where she started as a Reporter but was quickly promoted to Morning Anchor at KXLF/KBZK-TV. After two years of frigid, arctic temperatures, she packed up leaving only her parka and snow boots behind and headed to Columbia, South Carolina. She spent two years as a Reporter/Weekend Anchor at WACH Fox News.
The next part of her journalism journey would take her to Florence, Alabama, where she spent a year as a Bureau Reporter with WHNT-TV. From there Richmond, Virginia would become home when she took on the duties of Weekend Anchor/Reporter. It was in the Commonwealth she earned two Emmy Awards before leaving in 2015. Memphis, Tennessee was her next stop, where she worked three years as an Anchor/Reporter. She now reports for the CBS station and is proud to be a part of such an incredible community.
Jerrita has interviewed everyone from poet Nikki Giovanni, former NBA player Alonzo Mourning, to President Barack Obama. But her most memorable interview was with 101-year-old South Carolina native Donella Wilson, a self-proclaimed political buff who has been voting for decades and said she was proud to “exercise a right, once denied.”
Jerrita is a proud graduate from Hampton University (the real HU) and is a member of both the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) and the Memphis chapter (MABJ).
When she is not working you will find her somewhere cheering on her Hampton Pirates, volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, adding to her shoe-collection, roller-skating or working on maintaining her “Best Auntie” title with her precious niece, Brooklyn.
Jerrita’s motto is: “Never settle, until your dreams become reality. But never forget, your reality is someone else’s dream.”
Jerrita refers to myself as a “lifeaholic” and lives life to the fullest. She is blessed to live out a dream, which allows her to tell the stories affecting the community each and every day. When you see her out please feel free to stop and tell her your story.
