Marcus Hunter joined WREG News Channel 3 in April 2022 as Weekend Daybreak Anchor and Breaking News Anchor. He is excited to be returning to the Bluff City.
Marcus is a native of Columbus, Mississippi. As a senior in high school, he began his career as a production assistant at a local news station. He later took a job as a sports reporter and anchor all before graduating college.
After graduating from Mississippi State University, Marcus moved to Memphis, working as a sports anchor and news reporter. It was during this time he developed a passion for news.
In Memphis, Marcus covered big stories such as the murder of Lorenzen Wright, the Memphis Tigers’ run to the National Championship, The Grizzlies’ trip to the Western Conference Finals, and the Memphis City school board’s vote to surrender its charter, just to name a few.
After eight years working in Memphis, Marcus returned to Mississippi to raise his daughter, Kyla Hunter, and to welcome his son, Marcus Jaxon Hunter, to the world. It was here he became Morning News Anchor at a news station in the capital city.
With Marcus as Morning News Anchor, Jackson’s morning show won multiple Emmy Awards. He covered national stories such as the Jackson water crisis of 2021, the fight to change the Mississippi state flag, and Mississippi’s oral arguments to the U.S. Supreme Court that lead to the overturn of Roe v. Wade.
Marcus is looking forward to being a part of the Memphis community again. He may be Mississippi born, but he considers Memphis his second home.
