MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The annual Beautify Your School contest is now open to all schools in the News Channel 3 viewing area.
What is it?
The Beautify Your School Contest is a cleanup and beautification competition that challenges schools to improve their surroundings by first cleaning up their grounds then beautifying them with anything from plantings to murals and garden art. In addition, the Go Green category allows schools to showcase projects and programs directly related to the environment, including environmental fairs, recycling programs, cleanups, farm-to-table gardens, and more. Schools can enter in one or more of the following categories:
- GARDEN & GROUNDS BEAUTIFICATION: Improve the appearance of the school grounds. Examples include planting flowers, trees, and/or vegetables. You can also paint a mural, sign, bench, etc.
- OUTDOOR LEARNING: Highlight your outdoor classrooms and efforts to connect with nature. Submit projects such as orchards, pollinator gardens, rainwater collection & composting.
- GO GREEN & GET CLEAN: Showcase environmental programs or sustainability activities. Host recycling drive, campus cleanup & litter prevention activities. Make efforts to reduce waste!
- CREATIVITY CONTEST: Highlight your students’ artistic work. Students can do anything from painting trash cans to creating garden art and sculptures.
Who can participate?
- Open to all schools in the News Channel 3 viewing area grades Pre-K through 12.
- No contest fee is required.
What is Memphis City Beautiful?
Memphis City Beautiful was established in 1930. It is the first and oldest beautification commission in the nation. It is a city government agency within the Department of Neighborhood Improvement.
Partnership History began in 1990
- Memphis City Beautiful partnered with WREG News Channel 3 and Landers Ford in 1990 on the annual Beautify Your School Contest.

When is it?
- Registration is open now through May 1, 2025.
- Deadline for presentation entries with entry form must be submitted online or dropped off at one of the following locations by Wednesday, May 1, 2025:

Prizes and awards
- Cash prizes and trophies are awarded to the first and second-place winners in each category.
- First-place winners from each category will appear on LIVE at 9 on News Channel 3 on Wednesday, May 14.
The contest is sponsored by WREG, Landers Ford, and Memphis City Beautiful. Schools Pre-K through 12 in the Channel 3 viewing area can enter by filling out the form attached below.
