MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man was murdered and his 2-year-old son injured in a shooting in front of a Whitehaven home late Sunday night.
It happened in the 4900 block of Lochinvar Drive.
Neighbors tell us they heard six to eight shots and when they went outside heard the toddler’s cries.
“He was saying, ‘My daddy got shot, my daddy got shot,'” one neighbor who didn’t want to be identified said.
Investigators say it appears the man was walking from his driveway to his front door when he was shot, and may have been carrying his son at the time.
Police say the 22-year-old man was shot several times, and the child was transported to the LeBonheur Children’s Hospital in critical condition.
A woman at the house Monday didn’t want to talk about what happened, but told us the toddler is expected to recover.
A cousin who was also outside the home Monday said the toddler was shot four times.
Neighbors tell us this is normally a quiet street, and they can’t believe someone would shoot at someone with a child in his hands.
So far, police have not released any suspect information. If you know anything, call Crime Stoppers at 528-CASH.
