15-year-old girl shot and killed inside city’s last housing project

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Police are looking for suspects following a deadly shooting in the Foote Homes housing project.

According to authorities, the 15-year-old girl was shot and killed just after 11 p.m. Sunday in the 300 block of Vance Avenue near Danny Thomas Boulevard.

Several hours earlier, police said they broke up  a fight between several females armed with bats in the same area.

A  male showed up at the hospital a short time after that, saying he was caught in the middle of a fight at Foote Homes and shot in the arm.

People who live at Foote Homes said the 15-year-old girl who was shot several hours later was sitting on top of an air conditioning cage when a car drove by and someone started shooting.

Angela Price heard the gunfire, came outside, and saw the teen face down on the ground between two buildings.

“It was very sad. I was looking at her like it could have been my child. That is why I was trying to comfort her. That could have been my child, anybody’s child,” said Price.

The girl later died at the hospital.

Police said the shooter was in a gray or silver Infiniti.

They’re asking anyone who knows or saw something to call Crime Stoppers at (901) 528-CASH.

Foote Homes is the city’s last remaining public housing project.

Residents there are in the process of being moved out and the area will be redeveloped.
