CLARKSDALE, Miss. — The suspect who opened fire on a Clarksdale police officer has been charged with two counts of armed robbery and attempted murder.
Johnny Robinson Jr. was given a $700,000 bond for all three charges.
Surveillance video showed two men walk into the Corner Grocery store in Clarksdale on Saturday night.
The men robbed the store and then took off across the parking lot and down an alley.
That’s when Cpl. Derrick Couch spotted the larger suspect and tried to stop him behind a nearby church.
The suspect reportedly shot the officer through the eye socket, lodging the bullet in his head.
Couch was rushed to the Regional Medical Center in Memphis for treatment.
The 19-year-old was brought in by his father Sunday afternoon after the father saw the security camera footage.
The second suspect in the robbery that preceded the shooting is still at large.
A person of interest was taken into custody Sunday but has since been released.
