MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Shelby County Sheriff’s deputies arrested two people Friday for multiple thefts from motor vehicles.

Deputies responded to a suspicious call near Rensslaer Drive and Old Brownsville Road and made a traffic stop. The two people in the car, Antonio Wooten and Tyesha Agnew, gave conflicting accounts of why they were in the area, according to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said Wooten and Agnew gave consent for them to search the car, upon which they found property related to motor-vehicle thefts that occurred in the 5600 block of Rensslaer Drive.

The theft victims confirmed to deputies that the property recovered from the car was indeed what had been stolen from them, according to the SCSO.

Prosecutors charged Wooten, 20, and Agnew, 19, with burglary and theft of property.

Wooten was also charged with assault, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest after he kicked the windows of the squad car and kicked and spit on officers while in custody.

Wooten is being held on a $1,000 bond, and Agnew was released. Both will appear in court Monday.
