2 dead, 1 in custody after shooting

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Two people have died after being shot in the 3800 block of Orchi Road.

Police responded to the scene at about 2:15 p.m. Monday after hearing that two people had been hit by gunfire.

Friends of the victim told WREG they were a mother and her adult son.

Investigators have not confirmed that information, but did say one person was taken into custody.

That person has not been charged, and police have not released his name or the names of the victims.

A friend of the victims, Tom Harris, told WREG the mother and son had recently taken in a woman in need of help, and the woman’s ex-boyfriend had been giving them trouble.

“They were scared of him,” said Harris. ” They’d just been to my house yesterday and told me they were scared of him, that he was going to do something.”

Neighbors say the woman was also home during the shooting, but the gun jammed when the shooter turned it on her.

Police have not confirmed this information yet or said if the person in custody is the ex-boyfriend.
