MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Two children and one adult are dead after a Nutbush house fire, according to the Memphis fire and police departments.
The Memphis Fire Department responded to a fire at a home on Bayliss Avenue near National Street at around 6:39 a.m. Sunday morning.
A man and a little girl were reportedly pronounced dead on the scene. A little boy went to the hospital in critical condition.
Later Sunday morning, the Memphis Police Department reported the little boy died at the hospital. Neighbors said they heard cries for help early Sunday morning. One man said over the years, he has witnessed fires in the community, but everyone made it out safely. Now, the community is grieving for a family that experience an unimaginable tragedy.
Late Sunday night, Memphis Fire released a statement about this fire. According to MFD, the residence did not have a working smoke alarm. Memphis Fire said the home sustained smoke, fire and water damage, and the total damage is estimated at $56,400.00.
MFD said the fire started in the hallway ceiling area.
The fire department said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
