Man in custody after deputy shot in Carter County

ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. —A Carter County Sheriff’s deputy was shot in Elizabethton, near Johnson City in Carter County, CBS-affiliate WJHL reports.

Deputy Jenna Markland was shot above her mouth and on the side of her forehead according to the Johnson City Press.

Luckily, neither bullet went through her skull.

Another person, a female, was shot in the hand.

Kelly Pitts of Hickory, N.C. is charged with seven counts of criminal attempt to commit first degree murder.

This all started around 8:40 p.m. Wednesday.

Pitts was barricaded in a house for a time.
