(Memphis) Good news for people in the Mid-South looking for work. Big name companies are hoping to fill thousands of positions as they gear-up for the Christmas season.
Raven Ivy knows that any job is better than none, “Because I have a daughter to feed.”
She’s one of dozens who came looking for a pay check.
“Ninety Percent of the people sitting out there will have a job by the time they leave today,” said Elizabeth Bower, a branch manager with Simos Insourcing Solutions.
The seats are filled with job applicants but Bower says they’re looking for more faces. They’re looking for a line out the door, “We need more traffic coming-in. I sometimes wonder people if people just don’t know we are here.”
Three-thousand-five-hundred jobs are up for grabs as big name companies get ready for Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Christmas.
They are jobs for people who are willing to work even if it means starting at the bottom and taking a temporary job that might turn into something permanent.
“Are you willing to work for minimum wage?” asked reporter Sabrina Hall.
“Yes ma’am! Of course!” said Ivy.
“A good attitude is very important. Everybody has to start somewhere,” said Bower.
Bower says warehouses don’t need people with tremendous amount of skills but just enough work ethic to show-up and get the job done and done right.
While many hear on the news that jobs are done and unemployment is high, Bower says Memphis is always in need of these types of workers, especially this time of year.
“We are living proof that there are jobs out there. We fill them every single day. We are struggling sometimes to fill them.”
Raven says she’s not going to argue with an offer, “A job is a job and I’ll take it.”
If you’re someone who needs a job email, Simos has two locations where you can fill out an application: 4205 Hacks Cross, Suite 114 and 7124 Kerr Place, Suite F in Olive Branch.
Hours are Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday 8 a.m. to noon.
