MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Eighty-year-old Dale Sanders arrived in Memphis Saturday as part of his “Source to Sea Expedition”.

Sanders, who is a member of the Wolf River Conservancy, is kayaking his way down the Mississippi River from Minnesota all the way to the Gulf.

The 80-year-old kayaker is raising money and awareness for juvenile diabetes research.

Dale Sanders told WREG, “These kids suffer through their whole life and they’re not really heard.”

“They don’t have voices like an adult has.”

“Society, I believe has just sort of letting them stay in the background too long. Maybe, just maybe, this trip will raise awareness and funding, so they can find a cure.”

Sanders is already well over halfway to his goal of reaching the mouth of the Mississippi down in Louisiana.
