MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Thursday’s very first 901 Day meant events were happening across the city to hone in on the sense of pride Memphians feel for their city.
Sometimes Memphis gets a bad wrap; the homicide rate is still climbing.
As of now, there have been over 140 deaths, but the city has so much more to offer than turmoil.
“At least 800 people but we wouldn’t be surprised if 2,000 came through the course of the afternoon,” said event coordinator Sebastian Carson.
That’s how much foot traffic event organizers are expected to see coming through Loflin Yard. They say today is a day that makes you poke your chest out a little more in support of Memphis.
“September 1st is historically 901 Day. Memphians have as much if not more pride than anyone else in the entire world,” said City Leadership Recruitment Director Luke Pruett.
The mayor has even deemed it officially 901 Day.
“Memphis is on the boom of innovation just as far as creativity, behind our vendors, the different venues we do behind togetherness,” said Carson.
The party will go on until 10 p.m.
Coordinators promise live bands, ping pong, food, drinks and a whole lot of fun.
