911 not working on wireless phones in West Tennessee counties

Wireless phones were temporary unable to connect with the 911 system in Shelby, Fayette and Hardeman counties.

Most calls should be getting through by now, although some may experience a three-second delay, said Raymond Chiozza, the director of the Shelby County Emergency Communications District.

If you still can not get through on a mobile phone, use a landline to call 911. Or, those in Shelby County can call (901) 543-6333, and those in Fayette County should call (901) 465-3456. Wireless callers with emergencies in Hardeman County can call (731) 658-3971.

The issue stemmed from a major outage in the state network that is affecting several West Tennessee counties, said Carolann Mason, the director of Fayette Co E9-1-1.

The outage should be fixed soon, Mason said.
