MEMPHIS, Tenn. — After a Memphis Police officer was cleared of wrongdoing in a New Year’s Eve crash, the lawyer for some of the women he hit with his police cruiser sat down with WREG to tell their side of the story.
State and local investigators found Officer Eric Moore did nothing wrong.
The crash happened just before midnight on New Year’s Eve.
Moore’s police cruiser struck four pedestrians at Beale and Danny Thomas.
Attorney Randy Fishman represented three of the four women.
He said they were on their way to Beale Street for the New Year’s festivities.
They lived in Kentucky.
“That these ladies may have been intoxicated and therefore their judgement may have been impaired, I can tell you, that’s not the case. These ladies were not intoxicated,” Fishman said.
The police report from the night of the crash said all four women were in the crosswalk.
It said one of the women had been drinking, but it was “unknown” if the other women had been drinking too.
It also said no alcohol tests were given.
That report said one of the women was crossing the street with the signal, but it said the other three were crossing against the signal.
The report said Moore had a green light.
Fishman said the women were not in a place they were not supposed to be.
“It’s far from me to understand how that happens without some serious negligence on the part of the officer, driving the vehicle,” Fishman said.
He said the women were nursing devastating injuries.
State and local investigators said the cop was not speeding.
Fishman said he has not filed a lawsuit yet.
WREG reached out to the city anyway but did not immediately receive a response back.
