Low cost airline Allegiant Air coming to Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Low-cost airline Allegiant Air is advertising on its website new routes to Memphis beginning in May.

Allegiant does not currently have a presence in Memphis.

Allegiant plans direct flights from Memphis to Orlando, Fort Lauderdale and Las Vegas starting Friday, May 22.

The flights currently on the schedule are on Monday and Friday each week.

The planes will be MD80, a model that seats up to 166 passengers.

“Memphis was under-served,” Eric Fletcher, with Allegiant Air, explained. “There were more passengers here, more potential travelers here looking for vacation. Airfares were pretty high. Last night I was looking at airfares to each of these 3 destinations on other carrier and I couldn’t find a fare on May 22 for under $200. ”

The price for the first Memphis to Orlando flight is listed at just $37.50 with the return flight costing $60.50.

The addition of the Allegiant flights, in addition to other recent service additions and seasonal summer increases, will bring Memphis International’s overall peak daily flight totals to 84 flights to 39 destinations.

This represents an increase compared to May 2014, when there were 76 flights to 32 destinations.
