MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A group that provides a Thanksgiving meal for hundreds of homeless people in the Memphis area is need of some help of its own this year.

Just days away from the holiday, organizers of the “Thanksgiving Dinner for the Homeless and Hungry” are still in need of donations of food and clothing.

“We don’t have any dinner rolls. We have no dessert, and we have no beverages,” Shirley Williams said.

William said Cargill is taking care of the turkeys, but due to the death of a chairperson and some other problems, they don’t have all the food they need this year.

Williams said money the Grizzlies donated to help pay for sweatpants and sweatshirts for the homeless is now being  used to buy vegetables.

Williams said they still need the rest of the food on the menu and items to keep those living on the streets warm this winter.

“I need blankets desperately.  I need blankets, gloves, caps, scarves and socks for children,” Williams said.
