App Turns Smart Phone Into Crime Fighting Tool

(West Memphis, AR) A new mobile app is putting a crime fighting tool into the hands of those who live in and around Crittenden County, Arkansas.

The app called QuickTip allows iPhone, iPad or Android users to report crime, drug activity or even bullying to the Crittenden County Arkansas Sheriff’s Office via a text.

They can add a picture and include all their contact information, or make it anonymous.

“It goes directly to our dispatchers the 911 dispatchers and then they disseminate it to the appropriate agencies, 24 hour a day, seven days a week,” said Chief Mike Callendar.

Right now, the Crittenden County Sheriff’s Office and Helena-West Helena Police Department are the only local law enforcement agencies using the app.

It also lets allows them to send emergency notifications right to your phone.

“The Amber alert. That’s a perfect example. The quicker you can get the information out the better,” said Callendar.

Bertha King lives in Proctor, Arkansas.

She worries about crime and says police and sheriff’s deputies need all the help they can get, “Maybe we will cut some crime in the neighborhoods.”

QuickTip is available through iTunes or Google Play Store.

The sheriff’s office says tipsters could be eligible for CrimeStoppers money.
