Argument lands local man behind bars on child neglect, domestic violence charges

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man wanted for acting recklessly around a toddler and on domestic violence charges has been arrested and booked into the Shelby County Jail.

On Wednesday, deputies were called to Houston Levee Road and Country Way after an altercation at that location.

The woman who called 911 said she and her boyfriend had gotten into a fight while driving down the road.

The suspect, she said, started hitting her, so she unbuckled her seat belt.

When she did, the man slowed down the car, flung the passenger side door open and pushed her into the road.

He then grabbed her child from the back, which was still in its car seat, and placed it on the shoulder of the road.

The duo continued to argue back and forth, until the suspect suddenly put his car in reverse, almost striking the baby.

He then fled the scene in a dark BMW.

That man was later identified by the girlfriend as Derrick Keith.

He was arrested on Friday and charged with reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon, child neglect and aggravated assault/domestic violence.
