(Little Rock, AR) Arkansas Governor Mike Beebe today vetoed a bill that would ban most abortions after 12 weeks of pregnancy.

The bill would have banned abortions after 12 weeks once a fetal heartbeat is detected.

Women would have been required to have an abdominal ultrasound if they were thinking about an abortion past 12 weeks to detect a heartbeat except in cases of rape, incest or medical conditions that could have killed the baby after birth.

This comes a week after the Governor vetoed a ban on most abortions after 20 weeks.

That veto was overturned by the Arkansas Senate and House.
