(Marion, AR) Arkansas Representative Hudson Hallum told the Associated Press he would resign by Monday after admitting to bribery charges, but he is still in office.

A representative from the Governor’s office said Hallum didn’t turn in his letter of resignation Monday as expected. 

Hallum won a special election to the Arkansas State Legislature last year, and now the US Attorney`s office says he bought those votes and many more. 

According to their report, Hallum, his father Kent Hallum, City Councilman Phillip Wayne Carter and Sam Malone all admitted helping people fill out absentee ballots for Hallum. 

All four men have pled guilty, but have not been sentenced.

Kent Hallum owns Hallum Motors in Marion. 

He says he is extremely remorseful about what happened and he cannot comment further until the state investigation is complete.

The US Attorney says families were given up to $40 and chicken dinners to vote for Hallum. 

But it doesn’t stop there. 

According to the report, Hudson Hallum told Councilman Carter, ‘We need to use that black limo and buy a couple of cases of some cheap vodka and whiskey to get people to vote.’

Just two days later they looked into getting 100 half pints of discounted liquor. 

“It surprised me because the Hallums are well-known around here and it really surprises me,” said Crittenden County voter Jean Barnes.

Hallum’s opponent told the US Attorney’s office something was going on after the 29-year-old won the seat last November, so they launched an investigation.
