MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Police said they were looking for a unique armed robbery suspect that’s wanted in three different states.
A man wearing a woman’s wig may be linked to holdups in Wynne, Arkansas, Midtown Memphis and Southaven, Mississippi.
No one was hurt, but the “wigged” robber seems to be getting bolder.
“My reaction to this? A man that dresses in a woman’s wig, robbing places? Uh, wow!” said William Boyd.
And that pretty much summed up Boyd’s reaction to pictures of the “wig wearing robber” in action.
The suspect was caught on camera, holding up at least three convenience stores in the mid-south during the month of April.
“I seen it on the news, but I didn’t pay too much attention to it until I ran into you, and you showed me this, ” said Boyd.
Area lawmen, however, were paying plenty of attention after the “wigged” suspect waved a gun at a clerk at the Circle K in Midtown Memphis on April 2nd.
Then on April 13th, an armed person with the same long, curly, brown wig and dark clothing robbed the Exxon on Goodman Road in Southaven.
Security cameras got a good picture of the getaway vehicle: a red Dodge pickup.
Southaven Police said the man had a black handgun and took an undetermined amount of cash.
It’s believed the same person traveled more than fifty miles on April 14th and robbed a grocery store in Wynne, Arkansas.
WREG were told by workers at a wig store in Memphis that the man’s “do” didn’t look very expensive and they believed he could have gotten it from a friend or found it in the trash.
But judging from the pictures one thing’s for certain; the robber wasn’t worried about making a fashion statement.
“It looks like a woman to me. It actually, really looks like a woman with glasses on. But it’s a scary sight. That is a very scary sight,” said Boyd.
If you think you know who the “wig wearing robber” is, you’re urged to call the police.
