(Memphis) Memphis police arrested and charged two men for the robbery and murder of a south Memphis Pawn Shop owner.
Virak Hean was shot and killed Wednesday inside Lamar Jewelry and Pawn.
Police charged Charles Griffin with first-degree murder in perpetration of robbery.
They charged accused getaway driver Christopher Woodland with accessory after the fact first-degree murder.
Woodland has a bond of $250,000. Griffin is behind bars with no bond.
Griffen is accused of killing Hean before stealing items from the store.
Surveillance video showed a man shattering a glass case to steal jewelry before escaping in a red car.
The affidavit says Woodland told police he drove the getaway car, burned it and destroyed other evidence. He also split the money with Griffin.
Griffin is no stranger to the criminal justice system.
He’s been arrested dozens of times before on charges ranging from indecent exposure to aggravated robbery.
He was sentenced to seven years for the robbery, but a year and a half after he was sentenced, he was out of prison and charged with another crime.
The arrest provides only temporary relief for nearby business owners on Lamar.
“I’ve been concerned ever since I’ve been here because I’ve been robbed several times myself. It does worry me but you know that’s the price you pay when you have a little small business,” said Washhouse owner Alton Ivey.
“You go to court and you prosecute them and all that stuff and three or four months later, you look out your window and say ‘there that guy goes again’,” said Ivey.
Griffin is due in court December 23rd.
