(Northaven) In North Shelby County, the Country View Mobile Home Park looks like a dilapidated ghost town on Millington Road.
Thursday morning, someone went there and torched several homes, and it’s not the first time.
Junious Scott is the property manager. Scott said, “They need to catch whoever is doing it. It not only endangers the fire department and endangers the whole area as dry as it’s been causing fires. We are concerned about the fires.”
Country View has had its share of problems. It was engulfed in water during last May’s flooding in 2011.
Brent Perkins, a spokesman for the Shelby County Fire department, said fire crews have been called to the park at least 30 times to battle flames.
He said, “We’ve had a number of events out there and we’ve been taking it serious now since the very first one and they are of a suspicious nature and our teams are looking at it.”
What complicates matters even more so is the park has been vacant since the floods.
The Shelby County Mayor’s Office tells News Channel 3 the owner of the park, not the trailer owners, cannot be found and has been fined more than $15,000 for allowing an unsafe condition.
The owners are scheduled to appear in Environmental Court next Monday.
Junious Scott says they are trying to clean up the area, “We are trying to get it cleaned up. We are under court order to get this place cleaned up and get rid of all the trash and debris. Regarding the home owners, we are trying to contact the owners to give us some assistance.”
It’s part of an effort to make the area less attractive to a dangerous arsonist.
