Authorities offering reward for information after man discovered dead in Crittenden County

CRITTENDEN COUNTY, Ark. — Arkansas authorities are offering up to $2,000 in reward money in connection to a recent homicide in Crittenden County.

According the Crittenden County Sheriff’s Office, a body was discovered on Mounds Road on January 31. An autopsy identified the man as Justus One Smith, 32, of West Memphis.


Authorities are investigating the death as a homicide.

WREG asked the Sheriff who found Smith’s body but right now that’s unclear. It’s also unclear how Smith died or how long he had been left in the area.

We talked to several of Smith’s relatives. They initially reported him missing last month. West Memphis Police posted about his disappearance, saying he was last seen January 5th in the West Memphis area.

Relatives remained desperate for answers as law enforcement kept an eye out for their loved one. Friday, heartbroken family members described Smith as a hard working man, who lit up the room the room and could make anyone laugh.

Authorities asked anyone with information to call Crittenden County Crime Stoppers at (870) 732-4444. Anyone who submits information that leads to an arrest will be eligible to receive up to $2,000 in reward money.
