Authorities searching for suspect after police chase along Highway 385

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Tennessee authorities are searching for several individuals following a police pursuit along Highway 385 overnight.

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office confirmed it all began when deputies received a call about someone trying to break into vehicles in Arlington.

The responding lights and police activity didn’t go unnoticed.

“About five after 5 a.m. my doorbell Ring went off, so of course I check the feed and it was just a bright light,” one neighbor told WREG’s Quametra Wilborn. “It must have been a police searchlight checking things out.”

Other neighbors said they received a knock on their doors from deputies asking for help.

“They said that somebody was on the run,” said neighbor M.C. Mack. “Some guys were breaking into cars on the street on this block and somebody got away.”

Deputies spent several hours in the community looking for those individuals, but it wasn’t long before that search expanded onto the highway and into Memphis.

According to authorities, they located a SUV that may have been involved and began following them. It eventually turned into a chase down Highway 385, which came to an abrupt end when the suspects bailed out of the vehicle between Ridgeway and I-240.

About a dozen law enforcement officers were seen early Wednesday morning searching the area on the ground and with a helicopter. At last check, the suspects have not been located, but police said the car they were in was stolen.
