(Collierville, TN) Morgan Cox considers himself just an average guy.
“I don’t think of myself as famous. I’m just a guy,” Cox said.
But he’s a pretty big deal as the long snapper for the Baltimore Ravens, last year’s Super Bowl Champions, and he’s a big deal in his hometown of Collierville.
“This is where I became who I am. It’s a special place for me to come back and be at home,” Cox said.
Cox’s homecoming was of Super Bowl proportions at Schilling Farms Middle School.
Students wore his Ravens’ jersey and had his number, 46, written on their faces.
Cox showed off his long snapping skills, and also took the time to autograph footballs and take questions from students.
They asked what was his favorite subject in school? He said it was math, and they, of course, wanted to know about the Super Bowl.
“It was like a dream, I couldn’t believe come true,” Cox said to applause.
Emma Wilson had a chance to meet him.
“It was awesome because I never thought I would meet someone from the Super Bowl,” Wilson said.
Long before his days in the NFL, this Collierville native attended and graduated from ECS in Shelby County.
“I was in their seats not so long ago. It is so cool to come back and get their support,” Cox said.
Morgan Cox says he looks forward to the upcoming season with the Ravens, but he says he always cherishes coming back home and giving back.
“That’s my goal, to get out in the community and spend time with kids and if I inspire one then I’ve done what I’m supposed to,” Cox said.
Cox’s visit was sponsored by the NFL’s “Fuel Up To Play 60” program aimed at getting students to eat healthy and be active.
