(Memphis) Bass Pro has come up with a new design for its Pyramid signs.
The company hasn’t officially submitted their plans to the City, but City Councilman Lee Harris says Bass Pro has promised to keep one side of the pyramid just the way it is.
“It’s beautiful, quiet, safe,” said Mud Island Resident Michelle McKissack.
Mud island is a lot of things.
“It’s very serene, very relaxing,” said Resident Dave Campbell.
It also has a very large next door neighbor.
“It is in your face,” said Councilman Harris.
And now the icon has a new owner.
“I would rather not have a big, huge, large sign,” said McKissack.
The new owner, Bass Pro, wanted to use each side of the pyramid to advertise.
“There are a lot of different opinions on Mud Island,” said Harris.
Harris says he listened to his constituents opinions and decided to write Bass Pro a letter.
Harris says he just heard back that Bass Pro is going to leave-off a sign on the North side of the pyramid out of respect to Mud Island residents, “The real rub was that Mud Island was just a stone`s throw from this pyramid.”
But not everybody on the island is going to benefit from the plan.
Those who live near the new bridge on the island get to see the West side and South side of the pyramid, poolside.
“That icon is such an icon in and of itself,” said McKissack.
Some say the plan doesn’t go far enough.
“There are tourists who hop-off the highway just to stop by it and take pictures,” said McKissack.
We showed the pool view to Harris.
“Nice view!” he laughed. “Those who live in that building should contact me. If I hear from other constitutes on the South side of the island, I will see what I can do for them too.”
But looking at the pyramid from the North, East, West, and South – while signs might not bother everyone – Harris might be getting a lot of phone calls.
“You guys should contact me,” laughed Harris. “I like to solve problems.”
