Berclair Club Shut Down by D.A.

(Memphis)  The Shelby County District Attorney’s Office has shut down a popular Hispanic nightclub for the second time in two years.

La Granja Bar & Grill — located at 4780 Summer Ave. west of Mendenhall — was shut down for violating the terms of an agreement it reached with the District Attorney’s Office after it was declared a public nuisance in 2011.

La Granja was one of six clubs that were shut down in November 2011 after a multi-agency investigation brought down a major drug trafficking ring linking the Mid-South with Mexico.

Since the club reopened, police have responded to at least one shooting at La Granja. That one happened back on April 28th when a 26-year-old was shot in the parking lot.

The owners are scheduled to appear before Environmental Court Judge Larry Potter later this week. The business will have to remain closed at least until that hearing.
