MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A teenager with special needs says classmates beat him and robbed him on the way home from school on Tuesday.

Karina Salcedo held back tears thinking about the nightmare her son Ivan Salcevo endured just two days ago.

Salcevo has epilepsy and Salcedo said she was worried after her son ended up in the hospital with a bruised jaw and swollen arm following the attack.

“We want someone to hear us. We need some help,” said Salcedo.

Ivan Salcevo said a phone call with his father was rudely interrupted as the sophomore student walked home Kingsbury High.

“I turned this way and I didn’t finish talking to him because they attacked me from behind,” said Salcevo.

According to the police report, Salcevo was attacked not even a mile from his school.

He believes the group included some of his peers.

“It was maybe 7 of them and 2 adults,” added Salcevo.

He said the attackers stole his wallet, his cell phone and even his eyeglasses.

Bruised and swollen Salcevo said he still tried to get away.

“When I stood up, I felt dizzy, I felt blind. People were laughing and saying I got beat and I’m weak.”

Despite the taunting, Salcevo knows that he isn’t weak and hopes his standing up and speaking out will save someone else from being attacked.

The school said they were informed of the incident that took place near campus.
